El Salvador
Despite being the smallest country in Central America, El Salvador is well worth a visit. Offering multiple destinations and a wide variety of tours and experiences, a trip to El Salvador stands proudly as a destination in itself. However, if you have the time and inclination, it can also easily be combined with Guatemala, and / or Copan in Honduras, for a multi-country itinerary.
With coffee fincas, handicraft markets, archaeology sites, volcanoes, waterfalls and lakes to tempt you with just a few, El Salvador offers the chance to see and do a lot in a relatively short amount of time, and without too much travel required.
Things to do in El Salvador:
- Enjoy the Ruta de las Flores or “Flowers Route” – a scenic route comprised of five quaint towns very close to the border with Guatemala.
- Explore archaeology sites such as Joya de Cerén (UNESCO World Heritage Site) known as the “Pompeii of America”
- Spend some time in historic Suchitoto taking an indigo workshop, admiring local handicrafts and getting hands-on with pupusa making.
- Immerse yourself in the local coffee culture.
- Discover San Salvador with it’s historic city centre combined with the thriving modern metropolis.
- Spend a few days relaxing at the beach, enjoying wonderful seafood and perhaps some surfing lessons!
